Motorists should expect to be blocked from crossing the Commission’s Washington Crossing Toll-Supported Bridge during late morning and early afternoon on Christmas, Dec. 25.
The exact time of the bridge’s closure to vehicular traffic will be determined by the shutdown of the George Washington Boulevard/PA Route 532 in Upper Makefield, PA. The current estimated closure period is from approximately 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The roadway closure will effectively block traffic from getting onto or off the bridge.
Motorists anticipating to use the bridge during daytime hours Thursday, Dec. 25, should plan ahead and avoid using the bridge while event activities are taking place. The closest river crossing points are the Scudder Falls (I-295) Toll Bridge, which is 2.5 miles to the south with tolls being charged electronically through E-ZPass and TOLL BY PLATE in the Pennsylvania-bound direction, and the New Hope-Lambertville Toll-Supported Bridge, which is 7 miles to the north and free to cross in either direction. The closest non-tolled crossing to the south is the Calhoun Street Toll-Supported Bridge between Trenton, N.J. and Morrisville, PA., which is 6.3 miles downstream.
The Washington Crossing Bridge’s pedestrian walkway will remain open. Note: Due to low river levels, a reenactment of Washington crossing the river in a boat is unlikely.
