WASHINGTON CROSSING – The Washington Crossing Toll-Supported Bridge is scheduled to be shut down to all vehicular traffic between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Apr. 21, the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission announced today.

The temporary traffic closures will enable Commission maintenance forces to execute a series of tasks at the narrow, aging bridge:

  • Reseat a loose steel-grate roadway section on the bridge’s Pennsylvania side;
  • Repaint the bridge’s centerline; and
  • Patch and recoat the bridge’s New Jersey approach roadway surface.

While the bridge’s roadway access will be impeded during the work detail, the bridge’s pedestrian walkway will remain open.

Motorists are advised to plan alternate routes while the bridge’s roadway is temporarily out of service.  The two closest river bridges are the Scudder Falls (I-295) Toll Bridge 2.5 miles to the south, and the New Hope-Lambertville Toll-Supported Bridge 6.9 miles to the north.

The Washington Crossing Bridge connects Upper Makefield Township in Bucks County, PA. with Hopewell Township in Mercer County, N.J.

Note: The scheduled travel restriction is subject to change due to weather, emergencies, and other factors.
