LAMBERTVILLE, N.J. – Temporary flagger-controlled alternating single-lane travel restrictions are scheduled to be implemented during weekday daytime hours starting Monday, Nov. 17 on the New Hope-Lambertville Toll-Supported Bridge (a.k.a. “the free bridge”), the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission announced today.

The restricted travel times will be 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday to Friday of next week and – if necessary – on Nov. 24 and 25 of the following week.

Bridge motorists could experience short-duration travel delays when using the bridge for travel between the New Hope and Lambertville commercial centers on weekdays. Bridge motorists are urged to reduced speeds, follow flagger instructions, and exercise caution when work crews are present on the bridge’s travel lanes.

The travel restrictions are needed so a Commission contractor can install steel panels beneath the bridge’s roadway deck. Once installed, the steel panels will serve as a work platform that electricians can then use to replace short-circuiting electrical junction boxes at multiple locations across the bridge.

Weather permitting, the installations of steel panels should be completed before the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Replacement of the compromised electrical-connection boxes is expected to begin after Thanksgiving on December 2. The subsequent electrical component work will be confined to the temporary work platform and is not expected to impact two-way traffic on the bridge. Alternating single-lane restrictions, however, will need to be instituted at a later date for purposes of removing the temporary work platform and its associated steel cables.
