NEW HOPE, PA – The New Hope-Lambertville Toll-Supported Bridge remains scheduled to be fully closed to vehicular traffic in both directions 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. (next day) on the nights of Monday, Nov. 18, to Thursday, Nov. 21.
The overnight vehicular traffic prohibitions will enable bridge-rehabilitation-project work crews to safely remove the bridge’s temporary overhead containment structure and install newly refurbished guide rails along the bridge’s upstream travel lanes.
The bridge has been undergoing a comprehensive rehabilitation project throughout much of this year. To carry out the project, a New Jersey-bound traffic detour has been in effect since late January. Pedestrian crossings have been restricted to a temporary walkway on the bridge’s roadway deck since mid-July.
The bridge’s temporary walkway will remain open during the upcoming overnight vehicular-traffic shutdowns, but pedestrians might encounter periodic flagger-controlled stoppages.
Alternate Routes for Overnight PA-Bound Traffic
- The closest alternate river crossing is the New Hope-Lambertville (Route 202) Toll Bridge, one mile north and tolled in the PA-bound direction.
- Non-toll options are the Centre Bridge-Stockton Bridge, 3.3 miles north; or the Washington Crossing Bridge (narrow), 6.9 miles south.
The 24/7 New Jersey-bound traffic detour at the bridge remains in effect and is not expected to be permanently lifted until permanent repairs to an unforeseen structural issue can be implemented and completed in late January – at the earliest.
Next week’s overnight travel restrictions are subject to change due to weather, emergencies, and other factors.
