LOWER MAKEFIELD, PA –Scudder Falls Bridge Replacement Project construction work is expected to swing into a heightened level of activity next week that will impact some motorists traveling the vicinity of the bridge, the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission announced today.

On the Pennsylvania side, the portion of PA Route 32/River Road that crosses beneath the Scudder Falls (I-295) Toll Bridge will be closed to traffic during daytime hours to allow for the setup of a large crane followed by the delivery and placement of steel girders for the bridge’s downstream span now under construction in the river.  These closures are currently projected to last four weeks.  Detours will be via nearby Main Street/Taylorsville Road beginning at East Afton Avenue in Yardley and Woodside Road in Lower Makefield.

On the New Jersey side, a series of overnight closures/detours are scheduled to be implemented in the area of the I-295/NJ Route 29 interchange (Exit 76).  These are need to allow for removal of temporary wooden planking installed during construction of the bridge’s upstream span in 2018-19 and subsequent transferal to the new downstream span’s girders that are already place across portions of Route 29.  The planking is a safety measure that will allow for completion of the downstream span’s road deck next year.

Note: The Scudder Falls Toll Bridge and I-295 are projected to be fully operational during commuting periods; any travel impacts from the abovementioned closures/detours should be minor.
