EWING, NJ – Overnight travel restrictions and detours at the I-95/Route 29 interchange (Exit 1) will continue into this weekend Saturday, March 3, and Sunday, March 4, the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission announced today.

The scheduled ramp and roadway closures and corresponding detours will enable work crews to complete the installation of steel bridge-deck beams for the upstream span of the Scudder Falls Replacement Bridge now under construction. The additional weekend travel restrictions became necessary when recent inclement weather forced postponement of previously scheduled weekday overnight bridge construction work.

Weather permitting, portions of the interchange will be closed and detoured Friday, March 2 from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. (next day), Saturday, March 3 from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. (next day), and on Sunday March 4 and Monday, March 5 (if necessary) from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. (next day).

The following traffic movements at the interchange will be affected when lane closures and detours are implemented:

  • Route 29 southbound traffic through the interchange
  • Route 29 northbound traffic onto I-95 southbound
  • I-95 southbound traffic seeking to access Route 29 southbound
  • I-95 northbound traffic from Pennsylvania seeking to access Route 29 northbound

Motorists are urged to allow extra time to reach their destinations if they plan to utilize any of the above-listed travel movements on nights when construction cranes are used to lift steel bridge beams into place on the new bridge’s recently completed abutment and piers in the vicinity of the I-95/Route 29 interchange.

The aforementioned scheduled travel restrictions are subject to change due to weather, emergency, traffic, and equipment/materials mobilization considerations. Motorists are urged to allow extra time to reach their destinations, and to reduce speeds and exercise caution when travelling through project work areas.
