The New Hope-Lambertville Bridge will be closed to NJ-bound traffic during daytime hours on weekdays for up to two weeks starting 6 a.m. on Monday, September 15.
The bridge’s access lane from the Pennsylvania side will be barricaded at the intersection of Main Street (Route 32) and East Bridge Street (Route 179) in downtown New Hope. Signage will direct affected motorists to proceed north along Main Street (Route 32) to the nearby New Hope-Lambertville (Route 202) Toll Bridge for travel into New Jersey.
Commuters are urged to plan for the temporary detour and allow additional time to reach their destinations. The detour of NJ-bound traffic off the bridge is expected to be in effect for 12 hours (6 a.m. to 6 p.m.) on weekdays only for two weeks, ending Sept. 26.
The bridge – which directly connects the commercial centers of Lambertville, N.J. and New Hope, PA. – will remain open to vehicular traffic in the Pennsylvania-bound direction (the toll direction at the nearby New Hope-Lambertville [Route 202] Toll Bridge) at all times. The bridge’s pedestrian walkway also is expected to remain in service without interruption. The bridge also will be open fully to two-way traffic during nighttime hours and on weekends.
The NJ-bound traffic detour will allow a Commission contractor to install a temporary under-bridge platform that will be used to inspect and potentially repair electrical-supply components on the bridge.
During NJ-bound traffic detours, PA-bound traffic will be shifted into the bridge’s downstream travel. This will provide a safe work zone on the bridge’s upstream side for purposes of installing the under-bridge platform.
