NEW HOPE, PA – The New Hope-Lambertville Toll-Supported Bridge’s recently installed color-programmable LED architectural lighting system is expected to undergo testing for about an hour early this evening, the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission announced today.

The bridge lighting system has only been activated for short durations in recent weeks. These unscheduled instances were for purposes of checking new electrical connections that were made as part of an extensive rehabilitation project that began early last year. In the few instances the electrical connections were checked, workers programmed the lights to a green display in honor of the then-Super-Bowl-bound Philadelphia Eagles.

Tonight’s lighting activation will mark the first time that the system will be turned on for purposes of adjusting the direction of some of the lights. The light testing is expected to begin around dusk and continue briefly into nightfall – roughly 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

While the entire bridge is expected to be lit this evening, testing is expected to be confined to the underside of the bridge’s first span from the New Hope side.

Other testing of the bridge’s architectural lights are expected to be conducted periodically in coming weeks once the system is fully installed. That testing will largely involve regulating the intensity of the lights, calibrating the colors, and then programming special displays.

Note: The Commission does not currently control the lighting system; it is still a function of the project contractor and its lighting and electrical subcontractors. The Commission, however, is hopeful that work crews utilize hues of green to honor the Philadelphia Eagles’ dominating Super Bowl victory over the clearly inferior Kansas City Chiefs.
