Special Vehicle Permit

The Commission requires Special Permits for any truck or vehicle that exceeds one or more of the following criteria and/or needing a permit to operate on the state routes of either Pennsylvania or New Jersey:
  • Gross vehicle weight (GVW) over 80,000 pounds
  • Over 13 feet 6 inches in height
  • Greater than 8 feet 6 inches in width
  • More than 75 feet in length

Weight Restrictions

Special Permit vehicles may cross some Commission bridges. Special Permit vehicles are prohibited on all other Commission bridges, many of which have weight and size restrictions or are prohibited for motor vehicular travel. The full list of the Commission’s weight- and size-restricted bridges may be found in the Bridge Info section of this website.
