LOWER MAKEFIELD, PA – The travel pattern and ramp changes established in recent weeks are now allowing for a new stage of work activities in the Scudder Falls Bridge Replacement Project’s 4.4-mile construction zone.
The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission nonetheless warns motorists to allow extra time to reach their respective destinations when using the Scudder Falls Bridge going forward.
This is especially the case at the I-295/Taylorsville Road interchange (Exit 10) on the Pennsylvania side of the Scudder Falls Bridge. This interchange is now a fully-engaged construction zone. Backups are possible at this location at any time of day due to lane closures, delivery of materials, and movements of construction vehicles. Please allow for possible delays as this interchange undergoes realignment in the months to come.
(NOTE: Utility work currently taking place along Taylorsville Road south of the I-295 interchange is not related to the Scudder Falls Bridge Replacement Project.)
The full schedule of project-related travel restrictions for the week of September 9 is as follows:
Pennsylvania side
- I-295 east (old I-95 north) from the Route 332/Newtown-Yardley interchange (Exit 8, old exit 49) to the Scudder Falls Bridge – Intermittent single-lane travel patterns 10 a.m. to 6 a.m. (next day) Monday, Sept. 10 through Friday, Sept. 14.
- I-295 west (old I-95 south) from the Scudder Falls Bridge to the Route 332/Newtown-Yardley interchange (Exit 8, old edit 49) – Intermittent single-lane travel patterns 8 p.m. to 2 p.m. (next day) Monday, Sept. 10 through Friday, Sept. 14.
- Taylorsville Road north of I-295 – Intermittent single-lane patterns with possible flagger-controlled travel 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, to Friday, Sept. 14.
- Taylorsville Road south of I-295 – Intermittent single-lane patterns with possible flagger-controlled travel 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, to Friday, Sept. 14.
- Woodside Road (west of Taylorsville Road to around Clearview Drive) – Right or left lane closures with passage maintained in each direction and/or flagging-controlled travel 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, to Friday, Sept. 14.
- River Road/Route 32 – Intermittent alternating single-lane travel with traffic controlled by flaggers 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, to Friday, Sept. 14.
New Jersey side
- Route 175/River Road – Intermittent alternating single-lane travel may be implemented approximately 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10 to Friday, Sept. 14.
Weekends: Other than carryover of possible Friday overnight travel restrictions, no travel restrictions are scheduled for the weekends of Sept. 8-9 and 15-16
Canal Towpaths: The Delaware & Raritan (D&R) Canal towpath on the NJ side of the Scudder Falls Bridge will continue to be closed to ensure public safety during construction activities in the vicinity of the canal approximately 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays Monday, Sept. 10 to Friday, Sept. 14.
The aforementioned scheduled travel restrictions are subject to change due to weather, emergency, traffic, and equipment/materials mobilization considerations. Motorists are urged to allow extra time to reach their destinations, and to reduce speeds and exercise caution when travelling through project work areas.
