PHILLIPSBURG, NJ – I-78 motorists might encounter minor to moderate travel delays this weekend along a portion of the roadway west of the last New Jersey exit – the Phillipsburg/Route 22 & 173 interchange (Exit 3).
Travel restrictions are needed along the highway segment to allow for sandblasting, priming and painting of the Edge Road overpass in Pohatcong, N.J. The work is one facet of the ongoing I-78 Bridges and Approach Slabs Rehabilitation Project, which began late last summer and is expected to end this fall.
The weekend lane closures are as follows:
Westbound – Overnight single-lane travel pattern (two of three westbound lanes closed)
- 10 p.m. Friday, July 13, to 8 a.m. Saturday, July 14
- 9 p.m. Saturday, July 14, to 8 a.m. Sunday, July 15
- 9 p.m. Sunday, July 15 to 7 a.m. Monday, July 16
Westbound – Daytime two-lane pattern (one of three westbound lanes closed)
- 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, July 14, and Sunday, July 15
Eastbound – Overnight single-lane travel pattern (two of three eastbound lanes closed)
- 8 p.m. Friday, July 13, to 5 a.m. Saturday, July 14
- 8 p.m. Saturday, July 14, to 5 a.m. Sunday, July 15
- 8 p.m. Sunday, July 15, to 5 a.m. Monday, July 16
Eastbound – Daytime two-lane pattern (one of three westbound lanes closed)
- 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 13, and Sunday, July 15
The scheduled travel restrictions are subject to change due to weather, emergency, and traffic considerations. Motorists are urged to allow extra time to reach their destinations, to reduce speeds, and to exercise caution when travelling through project work areas.
