TRENTON, NJ – The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission is planning to relight the Lower Trenton Toll-Supported Bridge’s iconic illuminated “Trenton Makes The World Takes” sign with a formal ceremony this Thursday night.
Contractors for the DRJTBC recently outfitted the sign – once heralded as the world’s largest municipal advertising slogan – with new state-of-the-art LED lighting components and a new electrical supply system.
To mark the project’s completion, the Commission will host a sign-lighting ceremony at the nearby Trenton-Morrisville (Route 1) Toll Bridge Thursday, May 31, the 100th anniversary of the day the Lower Trenton river crossing was purchased from the Pennsylvania Railroad Co. and freed of tolls.
The pre-lighting ceremony and speeches are set to begin 8 p.m. in the parking lot at the Commission Trenton-Morrisville Administration Building 110 Wood and Grove Streets, Morrisville, PA. A countdown to light the sign will follow on the upstream side of the nearby toll bridge shortly after sunset.
Media seeking access to the countdown viewing area are advised to contact Joe Donnelly at 215-862-7693 or Pete Peterson at 215-893-4297 in advance of the event.
