EWING, NJ – Route 29 southbound will be closed with posted detour implemented on a 24/7 basis beginning 9 a.m. TOMORROW – Thursday, May 10 – in the vicinity of the I-295/I-95 interchange (Exit 76, old Exit 1) near the Scudder Falls Bridge, the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission announced today.
The closure will require motorists traveling on Route 29 south from Washington Crossing, Lambertville, and other northern points to use nearby NJ Route 175/River Road as an alternate travel route. (DETOUR MAP CAN BE FOUND HERE)
The road closure also will affect motorists who seek to access Route 29 south from I-295 north/I-95 south at Exit 76/old Exit 1. The spur ramp that handles this traffic movement will be closed and detoured while the limited Route 29 southbound road closure is in effect. Affected motorists will be directed a short distance north to where they can turn left for accessing the NJ Route 175/River Road southbound detour back to Route 29. (DETOUR MAP CAN BE FOUND HERE)
The24/7 closure of the Route 29 southbound segment and accompanying exit ramp is expected to remain in place until sometime on the morning of Tuesday, May 15.
The travel restriction is needed to allow for execution of construction activities for the ongoing Scudder Falls Bridge Replacement Project. This phase of work involves excavation across Route 29 south near the Scudder Falls Bridge. The excavation will allow for installation of new drainage facilities. Once the drainage work is completed, the roadbed will be restored. The affected road surface will then be repaved.
The aforementioned scheduled travel restrictions are subject to change due to weather, emergency, traffic, and equipment/materials mobilization considerations. Motorists are urged to allow extra time to reach their destinations, and to reduce speeds and exercise caution when travelling through project work areas.
