EASTON, PA – Travel restrictions will be in effect all next week along portions of the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission’s 6.5-mile-long I-78 roadway segment in New Jersey and Pennsylvania in the vicinity of the I-78 Toll Bridge.
Scheduled lane closures will be implemented along each direction of the I-78 segment during the week, with two-lane travel patterns during daytime and early evening periods and single-lane travel patterns during overnight hours. The full schedule of travel restrictions are as follows:
I-78 Eastbound – from I-78 approach bridge across Route 611 in Pennsylvania (milepost 77.2) to Carpentersville Road overpass (milepost 0.5) AND from milepost 2.3 to Edge Road overpass (milepost 4.5):
- Reduced to two lanes (instead of three lanes) 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29 to Saturday, Nov. 4.
- Reduced to single lane (instead of three lanes) 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. (next day) Sunday, Oct. 29 through Saturday, Nov. 4.
I-78 Westbound – from Carpentersville Road overpass of I-78 (milepost 0.5) to the I-78 Toll Bridge approach in New Jersey (milepost 0.1) AND from Edge Road overpass (milepost 4.5) to milepost 2.3:
- Reduced to two lanes (instead of three lanes) 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29 to Saturday, Nov. 4.
- Reduced to single lane (instead of three lanes) 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. (next day) Sunday, Oct. 29 through Saturday, Nov. 4.
The scheduled travel restrictions are subject to change due to weather, emergency, and traffic considerations. Motorists are urged to allow extra time to reach their destinations, and reduce speeds and exercise caution when travelling through project work areas.
The lane closures are needed to allow for temporary striping of I-78 travel lanes in the vicinity of I-78 Toll Bridge and the approach bridge across PA Route 611, approach slab work at those same two locations, painting containment installation work at the Edge Road overpass, and the application of intermediate and finish paint coats at the Carpentersville Road overpass.
The work is part of a 15-month-long rehabilitation project now taking place at various overpasses and bridges along the Commission’s I-78 segment and the approach slabs immediately before and after those structures.
