A series of off-peak lane closures and overnight ramp detours are scheduled for next week to facilitate the advancement of various construction and project-preparation activities for the Scudder Falls Bridge Replacement Project.
The following travel restrictions are scheduled for the project area during the week of July 16:
Pennsylvania side
- I-95 north PA — Single-lane travel pattern from the Rte. 332/Newtown-Yardley interchange (Exit 49) to the Scudder Falls Bridge OVERNIGHT 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. (following day) Monday, July 17, through Friday, July 21.
- I-95 south PA – Traffic shift with narrowed travel lanes now in effect from the Scudder Falls Bridge to the Rte. 332/Newtown-Yardley interchange (Exit 49); single-lane travel pattern OVERNIGHT 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. (following day) Monday, July 17 through Friday, July 21.
- River Road/Route 32, Lower Makefield, PA upstream of the Scudder Falls Bridge – brief-duration alternating single-lane travel patterns with flaggers 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, July 17, to Friday July 21.
New Jersey side
- I-95 southbound exit ramp to Route 29 (Exit 1) – OVERNIGHT closure with posted detour 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. (following day) Tuesday, July 18, and Wednesday, July 19 (use Exit 2 at Route 579/Bear Tavern Rd.).
- Route 175/River Road – alternating single-lane traffic pattern controlled by flaggers daytime and early evenings 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., and full closures in the vicinity of the Scudder Falls Bridge’s I-95 approach overpass 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. (following day) Monday, July 17, through Friday, July 21. Note: On-ramp to I-95 north will be inaccessible during the overnight closure periods; affected motorists should follow posted detour routes.
Weekends: No work is scheduled to be performed on the weekends of July 15-16 and July 22-23 (except for Sunday night work at Route 175/River Road in New Jersey).
The scheduled restrictions are subject to change due to weather, emergency, traffic, and project mobilization considerations.
Motorists are urged to reduce speeds and exercise caution when traveling through active work zones.
Due to changing travel patterns, narrower lane configurations and possible traffic queuing at some locations, motorists are encouraged to allow extra time to reach their destinations when traveling I-95 through the project work zone.
Bridge construction update: Unrelated to the scheduled travel restrictions, preparations continue to advance on both sides of the river for the construction of the replacement bridge’s first span – immediately upstream of the current bridge. Earthwork has been conducted in the staging areas where temporary trestle causeways will be extended out into the river for purposes of constructing the new bridge’s first set of support piers. Various trestle causeway components have been delivered to these riverside staging areas along with heavy equipment and large construction cranes that can now be seen from the current bridge. Once in place, the temporary trestle causeways will allow for the construction of masonry piers that will support the upstream span of the Scudder Falls Replacement Bridge. Pier construction would be carried out through the remainder of this year and into early 2018, allowing for construction of the upstream span’s superstructure in 2018 and 2019.
