EWING, NJ – Utility relocation work along Route 175/River Road as part of the Scudder Falls Bridge Replacement Project construction will impact motorists seeking to access I-95 north for virtually a month in the area of the I-95/Route 29 interchange (Exit 1) in Ewing, N.J., the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission announced today.

A restricted-travel plan – set to begin on Wednesday, June 21 – will affect the portion of Route 175/River Road between Upper Ferry Road to the south and the road’s intersection with Route 29 to the north at the upstream end of the I-95/Route 29 interchange. Under the plan, the access ramp to I-95 north from Route 175/River Road will be inaccessible during overnight periods, but will be placed back into service daily during daytime and early evening hours for commuters and other frequent users.

A posted detour will be in effect during overnight closures of the I-95 northbound access ramp.

The plan is scheduled to be in effect from June 21 to June 29 and again from July 5 to July 20.

The plan is as follows:

  • Single travel lane in alternating directions with traffic controlled by flaggers 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
  • Overnight closures of the roadway – from the entrance to Trooper Drive to the point where Route 175/River Road splits north of the I-95 overpass – 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly.

During overnight closure periods, the posted detour will be as follows:

  • Route 29 southbound motorists attempting to access the I-95 northbound ramp from Route 175/River Road will be directed to remain on Route 29 south, making a left turn onto Upper Ferry Road, proceeding to Bear Tavern Road/CR 579, and turning left to access I-95 north at the I-95/Bear Tavern Road interchange (Exit 2).
  • Motorists attempting to access the I-95 northbound ramp from the State Police complex or Lower Ferry Road will be detoured to Route 29 north and that roadway’s nearby access ramp to I-95 north.

Notes:

  • While detours and alternating traffic patterns are in effect, access will be maintained to driveways for all residents along Upper River Road/Route 175 and the State Police complex on a 24/7 basis.
  • Access will be available to emergency responders, if necessary.
  • Utility relocation work will be placed on hiatus and Route 175/River Road and its corresponding access ramp to I-95 north will be open during the July 4/Independence Day holiday weekend travel period – June 30 through July 4.The scheduled restrictions are subject to change due to weather, emergency, and traffic considerations. Motorists are urged to reduce speeds and exercise caution when travelling through active work zones.More information and videos on the bridge replacement project are available at www.scudderfallsbridge.com.
