NEW HOPE, PA – The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission today warned that an intensive snow event on Thursday morning could exacerbate travel delays at the agency’s Trenton-Morrisville (Route 1) Toll Bridge and Scudder Falls (I-95) Bridge, highway crossings that have experienced increased traffic volumes due to the recent emergency shutdown of the Delaware River (I-276) Bridge connecting the New Jersey and Pennsylvania Turnpikes.
The Commission is urging motorists who regularly use the Route 1 and I-95 corridors for their morning job commutes between Bucks County, PA and Mercer County, NJ to either forgo travel completely on Thursday or allow additional time to reach their destinations.
“The combination of rapidly falling snow and increased traffic volumes has the potential to create prolonged congestion and delays at our Bucks-Mercer bridge crossings,” said Joe Resta, the Commission’s executive director. “Traveling is likely to be hazardous. People should only travel if it is an emergency. If a person does choose to travel, he or she should allow a significant amount of time to reach their destinations.”
Weather forecasters are predicting 6 to 10 inches of snow to fall in the Bucks-Mercer region Thursday morning. Anticipated impacts include:
- Hazardous travel due to snow covered roads and poor visibilities.
- Blowing and drifting snow can occur with winds 10-25 MPH.
- Visibilities ½ to ¼ mile at times.
- Temperatures around 30.
