PHILLIPSBURG, NJ – A roadway rehabilitation and security enhancement project along the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission’s New Jersey segment of I-78 will advance into a new construction phase next week with the start of overnight milling and paving work along I-78 Eastbound in Phillipsburg and Alpha, N.J.
To carry out the work, I-78 Eastbound is scheduled to be restricted to a single travel lane (two of three lanes closed) from the Pennsylvania side of the I-78 Toll Bridge at the Delaware River and continuing through a small portion of Phillipsburg into Alpha, N.J. as follows:
- 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, to 5 a.m. Thursday, July 18;
- 6 p.m. Thursday, July 18, to 5 a.m. Friday, July 19; and
- 6 p.m. Friday, July 19, to 5 a.m., Saturday, July 20.
The affected roadway segment is controlled by the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission.
Brief travel delays are possible during lane closure periods. Motorists are advised to reduce speeds when approaching lane-closure taper points and exercise caution traveling through active work zones. Schedule is subject to change due to weather, emergencies, etc.
The travel restrictions are part of a year-long project along the Commission’s I-78 jurisdiction in Williams Township, PA. and portions of Phillipsburg, Alpha, and Pohatcong, N.J. Weather permitting, the milling and paving work is expected to end before the Thanksgiving holiday travel weekend.
