PHILLIPSBURG, NJ – Travel restrictions will resume after the Labor Day holiday weekend for a construction project along the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission’s roughly 6.5-mile-long I-78 segment in western New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania.
Lane closures for the I-78 Bridges & Approach Slabs Rehabilitation Project are expected to resume overnight on Tuesday, Sept. 5. The full schedule is as follows:
- I-78 east and west reduced to two lanes in each direction (instead of three lanes) between the Still Valley interchange (Exit 3, Phillipsburg) at mile marker 4.2 and the I-78 bridge over Rte. 611 in PA — 10 p.m. to 1 p.m. (next day) Tuesday, Sept. 5 through Friday, Sept. 8.
The travel restrictions listed above are subject to change due to weather, emergency, and traffic considerations. Motorists are urged to allow extra time to reach their destinations, and reduce speeds and exercise caution when travelling through project work areas.
The lane closures are needed for shoulder paving work, an early construction activity in a 15-month-long project aimed at rehabilitating various overpasses and bridges along the Commission’s I-78 segment as well as the approach slabs immediately before and after those structures.
