DELAWARE WATER GAP, PA – Westbound I-80 motorists who use cash to pay their tolls could encounter delays during peak travel periods next week at Delaware Water Gap Toll Bridge.
The bridge’s westbound toll plaza will be reduced to three lanes beginning 7 a.m. Sunday, January 29 and will remain out of service until sometime on Friday, February 3. The bridge’s Express E-ZPass lane, which now handles more than 65 percent of the facility’s toll transactions, will remain open at all times. Eastbound I-80 drivers will be unaffected because tolls are collected in the westbound direction only at the bridge.
The closure of two collection lanes at the bridge’s toll plaza is needed to allow for the installation of new equipment for processing both electronic and cash toll transactions.
The work is part of a system-wide project to upgrade and modernize the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission’s toll collection hardware and software. The project is expected to reach completion at the Commission’s seven toll crossings by the spring.
