Daytime Lane Closures Scheduled for Three Northerly Toll Crossings during Week of Apr. 12

A series of temporary daytime off-peak lane closures are scheduled to be implemented at the Commission's three northerly toll bridges during the week of Apr. 12.

The schedule is as follows:

  • Milford-Montague (Route 206) Toll Bridge -- flagger-controlled alternating single-lane travel 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Apr. 13;
  • Portland-Columbia Toll Bridge (Routes 611, 94, and 46) -- flagger-controlled alternating single-lane travel 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Apr. 14;
  • Delaware Water Gap (I-80) Toll Bridge
    • Eastbound/NJ-bound lane closure (one of two lanes open) 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Apr. 15
    • Westbound/PA-bound left lane and Express E-ZPass facility closure 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Apr. 16. Motorists should use the adjoining former cash-collection toll lanes (cash transactions no longer accept).

The scheduled travel restrictions are needed so a Commission engineering consultant can conduct work associated with the design of future projects to establish highway-speed open-road all-electronic toll facilites at the three 72-year-old bridges.

Motorists are advised to reduce speeds and exercise caution whenever travel restrictions are in effect.

The schedule is subject to change due to weather, emergencies, and other factors.

Travel delays -- if any -- are expected to be minor.

Portland-Columbia Footbridge to Close during Daytime Hours Apr. 13 & 14

The Portland-Columbia Toll-Supported Pedestrian Bridge is scheduled to be closed between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, Apr. 13-14.

The daytime closures are needed so Commission engineering consultants can take measurements of the structure and conduct other activities for a future rehabilitation project.

The temporary bridge closures are subject to postponement and change due to weather, emergencies, or other factors.

Affected pedestrians are urged to reschedule their crossing times or use the Delaware Water Gap (I-80) Toll Bridge walkway 4.6 miles upstream.

(Note: Pedestrians and bicyclists are prohibited from using the nearby Portland-Columbia Toll Bridge, which does not have walkway and limited soley to vehicular traffic.)

Daytime Lane Closures Scheduled in Vicinity of Easton-Phillipsburg (Route 22) Toll Bridge Tuesday and Wednesday, Apr. 14-15

Off-peak daytime lane closures are scheduled during daytime hours in the vicinity of the Easton-Phillipsburg (Route 22) Toll Bridge on Tuesday, Apr. 14, and Wednesday, Apr. 15.

The anticipated travel restrictions are as follows:

  • Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. -- Route 22 westbound approaching the toll plaza (cash no lonter accepted) in New Jersey, left lane closed (two of three travel lanes open).
  • Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. -- Route 22 eastbound left lane closed crossing the bridge from Pennsylvania into New Jersey (one of two lanes open).

The travel restrictions are needed so engineers can conduct measurements and other tasks associated with the design of a future open-road all-electronic toll collection facility at the bridge.

Travel delays are not anticipated.

The scheduled lane closures are subject to change due to weather, emergencies, and other factors.

Flagger-Controlled Alternating Single-Lane Travel Scheduled for Calhoun Street Bridge Wednesday and Thursday, Apr. 15-16

Flagger-controlled alternating travel restrictions in a single traffic lane are scheduled for the Calhoun Street Toll-Supported Bridge from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Apr. 15, and Thursday, Apr. 16.

The daytime travel restrictions are needed for biennial inspections of the 141-year-old wrought-iron truss bridge in accordance with the National Bridge Inspection Standards. The bridge is inspected every two years and was last inspected in 2024.

Motorists could encounter traffic stoppages and travel delays whenever the bridge is reduced to a single-lane with alternating traffic.

The Commission urges motorists to plan ahead and anticipate travel delays during off-peak daytime hours at the bridge.

Motorists are advised to reduce speeds, exercise caution, and follow flagger instructions.

The schedule is subject to change due to weather, emergencies, and other factors.

Scudder Falls Toll Bridge Walkway Closed Mondays thru Thursdays until Memorial Day Weekend

The start date for 96-hour-long weekday closures of the Scudder Falls (I-295) Toll Bridge’s 0.86-mile-long Shared-Use Path for pedestrians and bicyclists sicheduled be closed for 96-hour-long periods on a weekly basis until the Memorial Day Weekend.

Closures of the bridge's walkway will begin early on Mondays and continue until early Friday mornings. The walkway is expected to be reopened for use on weekends.

The weekly closures will enable a Commission contractor to remove and replace the uneven puddle-prone polyester polymer concrete (PPC) surface along the bridge’s elevated walkway surface.

The bridge walkway facility’s entry points will be blocked at the Delaware & Raritan Canal’s rail trail on the New Jersey side and the Delaware Canal towpath on the Pennsylvania side.

Affected bicyclists and pedestrians are urged to use the Calhoun Street Bridge walkway to the south or the Washington Crossing Bridge walkway whenever the Scudder Falls facility is closed. Bikes must be walked across the walkways at those two alternate crossings.

Single Travel Lanes, Width Restrictions in Effect at New Hope-Lambertville (Route 202) Toll Bridge until Further Notice

The New Hope-Lambertville (Route 202) Toll Bridge is restricted to single travel lanes in each directions with a 10-foot width restriction in the southbound (Pennsylvania-bound) direction and an 11-foot width restrictions in the northbound (New Jersey-bound) direction.

The travel restrictions will remain in effect until further notice.

A Commission contractor is in the process of removing the former cash-collection toll plaza at the bridge. The Contractor will then erect an open-road cashless all-electronic tolling gantry in approximately the same location. The project also will involve repairs and improvements to the bridge’s Pennsylvania abutment.

Route 202 motorists approaching the bridge are urged to reduce speeds, prepare for lane shifts, observe size restrictions, and exercise caution.
