PHILLIPSBURG, NJ – A series of overnight lane closures are scheduled to be implemented Friday night into Saturday morning along both directions of the 4.2-mile-long New Jersey I-78 highway segment leading to and from the I-78 Toll Bridge at the Delaware River.
The stretch of highway has three lanes in each direction and passes through portions of Pohatcong, Alpha and Phillipsburg in Warren County, N.J. The travel restrictions are scheduled to begin 8 p.m. Friday, May 3, and end 5 a.m. Saturday, May 4.
Depending on the time and location, motorists could encounter either one open travel lane (two of three lanes closed) or two open travel lanes (one of three lanes closed).
Motorists should anticipate potential minor slowdowns and backups. The Commission urges motorists to reduce speeds and exercise caution whenever approaching active construction zones or restricted travel areas.
The lane closures will allow work crews to make pothole repairs as a preliminary element of a year-long rehabilitation project now underway along the Commission’s 4.2-mile-long I-78 highway segment between the Phillipsburg/Route22-173 interchange (Exit 3) and the I-78 Toll Bridge.
